Laid out in a star-shape, the Petersberg Citadel rises above Erfurt’s historic centre. As the crown of the city, it has shaped the image of Thuringia’s capital for centuries and is regarded as the only largely preserved baroque city fortress in Central Europe.

The timber in the 4-metre-high letters of the city’s name was overcoated by Das Malerkombinat Flock from Wundersleben using AquaVision Holzfarbe. A 9-strong team took 5 days to coat an area of around 230 m², requiring approx. 60 litres of the wood preservation product.

The building owner, Garten- und Friedhofsamt Erfurt, was aware of the particular challenge the project posed. Coating the lathing, particularly inside the letters, involved exceptionally meticulous work. When it came to choosing the product, the team trusted the recommendation provided by Sabine Sonntag, a member of the SÜDWEST sales force. The coating needed to retain its original character as well as be shock-proof and impact-resistant. We think they made a good choice!
