Mould always develops when moisture and organic nutrients come together. These are ideal conditions for the spread of mould fungi. These microorganisms are extremely adaptable and require only minimal amounts of water and nutrients to grow. Mould spores find sufficient food to grow even in everyday materials such as wallpaper, plaster, plasterboard, wood or wallpaper paste. However, the decisive cause of mould growth is moisture.
How moisture gets into walls, ceilings or building elements:
- through condensation (condensation on cold surfaces)
- through leaking building envelopes or cracks in the masonry
- through rising damp from the floor
- through inadequate ventilation and incorrect heating behaviour

Condensation as a trigger
As soon as condensation forms, i.e. when the surface temperature of a building element reaches or falls below the so-called dew point, a damp microclimate is created. Mould fungi find ideal living conditions in this environment. Cold exterior walls, corners of rooms, window reveals or areas behind furniture where air circulation is restricted are particularly frequently affected.
More than just a blemish
Mould is not just a cosmetic problem, but a serious health risk. Their spores can cause respiratory problems, asthma, irritation of the mucous membranes and allergies.

Prevention instead of combating
The most important measure against mould is therefore to avoid moisture in the long term. In addition to regular ventilation and sufficient heating, well thought-out building physics systems also play a decisive role - such as the moisture-regulating KlimaKomfort mould remediation system. It increases the surface temperature and thus prevents the formation of condensation.

The KlimaKomfort system structure: everything perfectly harmonised
With the KlimaKomfort system, SÜDWEST offers applications and end customers a complete solution in which all components work together perfectly. Special cleaning agents create the basis for a safe renovation. This is followed by a mineral adhesive, suitable priming coats, the innovative perlite board and wedges to close thermal bridges. The system is rounded off with high-quality fillers, plasters and diffusion-open colour shades.
The system benefits at a glance:
- Reliable protection against mould
- noticeably better indoor climate
- Simple and safe application
- durable, aesthetic surfaces

Ecologically harmless
The SÜDWEST KlimaKomfort mould remediation system completely dispenses with biocides in mould prevention. The KlimaKomfort perlite panel is made of natural volcanic rock, which is 100% ecologically harmless. This is a strong argument in favour of healthy living and safety, especially indoors.
The perlite panel as the centrepiece
The mineral volcanic rock perlite can absorb large amounts of moisture (up to 13.7 litres per square metre), store it and slowly release it again. In this way, the panel regulates the indoor climate, increases the surface temperature and permanently prevents mould from growing.

A wide range of design options
With the large selection of SÜDWEST plasters and fillers, surfaces can be customised - from smooth to finely textured to coarsely textured. Our organic interior plasters and our organic interior filler are also natureplus®-certified and actively contribute to a healthy indoor climate. The surfaces are rounded off with diffusion-open, mineral colour shades that remain breathable and regulate moisture - for a natural, durable and aesthetic surface.
How does the KlimaKomfort system for mould remediation work?
The system regulates room humidity using special perlite panels that absorb, store and release moisture in a controlled manner. This keeps the wall surface dry - and mould can no longer form.
Can the KlimaKomfort system also be used as a preventative measure?
Yes, it is not only suitable for refurbishment, but also for new builds or renovations as a preventative measure against moisture and mould growth.
In which rooms can the system be used?
The KlimaKomfort system is suitable for all living spaces - especially for areas at risk of damp such as bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchens, cellars or garages.
My walls are permanently damp - will the KlimaKomfort System still help?
No. In the case of permanently damp walls, the cause must first be rectified - e.g. leaks, rising damp or structural damage. The KlimaKomfort system was specially developed for the renovation of dry, prepared substrates and then ensures a balanced indoor climate and long-term mould protection.
After professional drying, it is ideal for preventing mould from forming again in the long term.
How does the KlimaKomfort system differ from conventional mould sprays or paint coats?
Mould sprays or paint coats usually only remove the visible traces - the KlimaKomfort system tackles the cause. Active moisture regulation permanently prevents mould instead of just covering it.
How long does the mould protection last?
The protection is permanent, as the system works physically on the building component and removes the livelihood of mould - without any subsequent treatment or chemical renewal.
For subsequent paint coats, a diffusion-open silicate-based interior paint should be used.
Can the KlimaKomfort system also be used in rented flats?
Yes, it is also suitable for partial refurbishments in rented flats and can be installed specifically on affected wall areas - without the need for costly conversions.
Does the KlimaKomfort system also make sense from an energy point of view?
Yes, increasing the surface temperature of the walls improves the sensation of warmth. The rooms feel warm more quickly and energy losses are reduced.
How is the KlimaKomfort system constructed?
The system consists of precisely harmonised components. These include cleaning agents, mineral adhesives, priming coats, perlite climate boards, wedges to prevent thermal bridges, fillers, plasters and diffusion-open colour shades.
Which substrates are suitable for the application?
The KlimaKomfort system can be used on mineral plasters, concrete, masonry, sand-lime brick or comparable substrates with load-bearing capacity. A firm, clean and dry surface is important. Please observe the information in the technical data sheets for the products.
Does the substrate need to be pre-treated?
Yes, the substrates must be sound, dry and free from mould. Special SÜDWEST cleaning agents and priming coats for highly absorbent substrates are available to optimally complement the system. The following also applies here: Please observe the information in the technical data sheets for the products.
What tools are required for the application?
The application is carried out with standard tools such as a notched trowel, smoothing trowel and cutting tool. No special machines or additional equipment are required.
What support does SÜDWEST offer for the application?
SÜDWEST provides clear processing instructions and offers technical advice. This gives you, as the applicator, the certainty that the mould remediation will be applied professionally and in accordance with standards.
For a professional and standard-compliant application, we recommend the SÜDWEST brochure "Installation instructions". There you will find all the processing steps clearly explained - including technical details and practical tips.
