Mould in living spaces often develops where there is prolonged exposure to high levels of moisture. The SÜDWEST KlimaKomfort System aids humidity regulation and is suitable for mould prevention and remediation indoors.
At the heart of the system is the KlimaKomfort perlite board. This mineral board absorbs moisture, stores it and, under the right conditions, releases it back into the indoor air. In this way, it helps to create a more balanced indoor climate and deprives mould of the moisture it needs to grow.
In combination with the coordinated system components, this creates a comprehensive system for professional mould prevention and remediation. It supports:
- a balanced indoor climate,
- indoor humidity regulation,
- thermal insulation properties and
- the prevention of mould regrowth, provided the structural conditions are suitable.
The SÜDWEST KlimaKomfort System combines mineral-based, moisture-regulating materials with coordinated system components – for a more comfortable indoor climate and professional mould prevention.
Mould can develop if sufficient moisture, suitable temperatures and nutrients are present over a prolonged period. Moisture, in particular, plays a key role in mould growth. Mould can colonise many everyday materials, such as wallpaper, wood, plasterboard or wallpaper paste, provided the necessary conditions for growth are met.
How moisture gets into walls, ceilings or building elements:
- through condensation, for example on cold surfaces
- through leaking building envelopes or cracks in the masonry
- through rising damp from the floor
- through inadequate ventilation and incorrect heating behaviour

Condensation as a trigger
As soon as condensation forms – that is, when the surface temperature of a building element reaches or falls below the so-called dew point – a damp microclimate can develop. This creates conditions that may encourage the growth of mould. Cold external walls, room corners, window reveals and areas behind furniture where air circulation is restricted are particularly prone to this.
More than just a blemish
Mould can pollute indoor air. People who are particularly sensitive may experience irritation or allergic reactions when exposed to mould or mould particles. At certain exposure levels, respiratory symptoms may also occur.

Prevention instead of combating
An important measure for preventing mould is the proper management of moisture. In addition to regular ventilation and adequate heating, systems designed in accordance with the principles of building physics can also help to reduce critical moisture conditions. The moisture-regulating KlimaKomfort mould remediation system helps to regulate moisture and, thanks to its thermal insulation properties, can contribute to a higher surface temperature. This helps to reduce the risk of condensation forming on surfaces that have been treated in this way.
The KlimaKomfort system - biocide-free mould remediation for a balanced indoor climate
Mould can affect both the building fabric and the quality of the indoor climate. With the KlimaKomfort System, SÜDWEST offers a solution for professional mould remediation and prevention that does not rely on biocides.
Mould prevention without biocides
The KlimaKomfort System helps regulate moisture and can therefore help to reduce conditions that encourage mould growth. The mineral-based system components also support the optimisation of the building physics of the renovated areas.
Provided the structural conditions are suitable, the system is ideal for use in bathrooms, bedrooms and children’s rooms, amongst other areas, and can be employed both in the renovation of existing buildings and in the planning of appropriate solutions for new builds.

Your advantages at a glance:

- High-quality surfaces with an attractive finish

Mineral-based and biocide-free
The SÜDWEST KlimaKomfort mould remediation system prevents mould growth without the use of biocides. The KlimaKomfort perlite board is made from the mineral perlite, a natural volcanic rock. This mineral-based system offers an attractive solution for moisture regulation and mould prevention, particularly for indoor applications.
The perlite panel as the centrepiece
Perlite, a mineral material, can absorb large quantities of moisture – up to 13.7 litres per square metre – store it and, under suitable conditions, release it again. In this way, the KlimaKomfort perlite board supports indoor humidity regulation.
Thanks to its thermal insulation properties, the board can also help to increase the surface temperature of renovated building elements. This helps to reduce conditions that encourage the formation of condensation and the growth of mould.

A wide range of design options
With the wide range of SÜDWEST plasters and fillers, surfaces can be customised – from smooth to finely textured and coarsely textured. Our organic interior plasters and our organic interior filler are also natureplus®-certified. These mineral-based products are therefore particularly suitable for creating high-quality interior finishes. The finishes are complemented by vapour-permeable, mineral colour shades. These allow water vapour to pass through and help maintain a balanced moisture level in the surface – resulting in natural-looking, high-quality finishes.
How does the KlimaKomfort system for mould remediation work?
The system helps to regulate indoor humidity. The KlimaKomfort perlite boards can absorb and store moisture and, under suitable conditions, release it again. This helps to reduce surface dampness and mitigate conditions that encourage mould growth.
Can the KlimaKomfort system also be used preventatively?
Yes. In addition to remediation, the KlimaKomfort system can also be used for mould prevention where the structural conditions are suitable, for example in new builds or during renovations. A prerequisite is that the cause of any existing dampness is professionally assessed and, where necessary, rectified.
In which rooms can the system be used?
The KlimaKomfort System is suitable for appropriate indoor spaces, particularly areas where increased moisture levels may occur, such as bathrooms, bedrooms or kitchens.
For basements, garages and similar areas, suitability should be assessed on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the structural and climatic conditions.
My walls are constantly damp – will the KlimaKomfort System still help?
In the case of building elements that are permanently damp, the cause of the moisture must first be identified and rectified – for example, leaks, rising damp or structural damage.
The KlimaKomfort System is designed for suitable, properly prepared substrates. Once the cause has been professionally identified and the substrate appropriately prepared, it can be used for restoration and mould prevention.
How does the KlimaKomfort System differ from conventional mould sprays or paint coats?
The KlimaKomfort System takes a building physics-based approach to moisture regulation. Rather than merely treating or covering mould on the surface, the system aims to influence the moisture conditions that enable mould growth.
How long does the mould protection last?
The system’s effectiveness is based on its building physics properties and its ability to regulate humidity. However, no general statement should be made about ‘permanent mould protection’, as the actual effect depends, amongst other things, on the building’s structural conditions, the level of moisture and the indoor climate.
For subsequent coating, suitable, vapour-permeable products should be used in accordance with the system design and the manufacturer’s instructions.
Can the KlimaKomfort system also be used in rented flats?
In principle, the system can also be used in rental flats for suitable partial refurbishments. However, the landlord’s or property owner’s consent should be obtained before any building work is carried out.
Is the KlimaKomfort system also energy-efficient?
Thanks to its thermal insulation properties, the KlimaKomfort perlite board can help to increase the surface temperature. This can improve the thermal comfort felt on the surface.
How is the KlimaKomfort system structured?
The system consists of components designed to work together. These include cleaning agents, mineral-based adhesives, priming coats, perlite climate panels, wedges to reduce thermal bridging, fillers, plasters and vapour-permeable colour shades.
Which substrates are suitable for application?
The KlimaKomfort system can be used on suitable wall structures such as mineral plasters, concrete, masonry and calcium silicate blocks. The surface must be solid, clean and dry.
Please refer to the information in the technical data sheets for the respective products.
Does the substrate need to be pre-treated?
Yes. The substrates must be sound, dry and free from mould. Suitable SÜDWEST cleaning agents and priming coats for highly absorbent substrates are available for preparation. Here too, the information in the relevant technical data sheets is authoritative.
What tools are required for application?
Application is carried out using standard tools, such as a notched trowel, a smoothing trowel and a suitable cutting tool. According to the current system design, no specialised machinery is required.
What support does SÜDWEST offer during application?
SÜDWEST provides application instructions and technical advice. These instructions assist applicators in the professional application of the KlimaKomfort system.
