Lotusan® and Lotusan® Therm are silicone-based façade paints featuring the Lotus-Effect®. The technology is inspired by nature: the water- and dirt-repellent properties of the lotus leaf. The microstructured surface reduces the contact area for water and dirt. Raindrops roll off, carrying loose dirt away with them – this helps façades stay clean and dry for longer.
The Lotus-Effect® – inspired by nature
Nature itself provides the model for the Lotus-Effect®. The surface of a lotus leaf has a special microstructure that means water adheres only minimally to it. Instead of spreading across the surface, droplets form which can then roll off.
In doing so, they carry loose dirt particles away with them. This natural self-cleaning effect helps ensure that the plant’s leaves are dry and clean again after every rain shower.
This principle has been adapted for use in facade coatings and forms the basis of Lotusan® technology.

Lotusan® – the silicone facade paint with the Lotus-Effect®
Lotusan® combines the water-repellent properties of modern silicone façade paints with a surface microstructure inspired by the lotus leaf.
The contact area for water and dirt is reduced. This allows façades to dry more quickly and prevents dirt from becoming firmly embedded.
For 25 years, Lotusan® has been synonymous with façade paints featuring a self-cleaning effect.

Highly water- and dirt-repellent
Facades dry more quickly
Reduced surface soiling
Weather-resistant and UV-stable
matt facade appearance
good water vapour diffusion

Lotusan® Therm – additional protection for more demanding situations
In exposed locations – such as at the edge of a woodland, near bodies of water or on heavily stressed north-facing and weather-exposed sides – façades are subjected to particularly high stresses.
This is where Lotusan® Therm offers additional protection.
In addition to the Lotus-Effect®, technical protection provided by encapsulated film preservatives with long-lasting effects helps ensure reliable protection against algae and fungal growth. This means the façade can remain clean and visually appealing for longer, even under difficult conditions.
