    Less penetration, greater safety

    Making sure white stays white
Even professionals have experienced this: you paint a wooden surface white, and after a while a brownish-yellow colour shade starts to show through. Even with a second paint coat. The new SÜDWEST KATIOTECH lacquers reduce unsightly discolouration and provide a reliable barrier effect against discolouration-causing ingredients from the substrate. This creates an even, opaque finish.

A trio for a wide range of substrate
Discolouration mainly affects wooden surfaces, but SÜDWEST KATIOTECH lacquers are also suitable for other substrates where a good adhesive bond and a versatile finish are important, such as plastics or non-ferrous heavy metals. A priming coat and two finishing lacquers are available.

    Background information

    How does discolouration occur?
The binders in conventional lacquers and colours can leach ingredients from the substrate, such as organic wood components, nicotine or soot. These can appear on the surface as unwanted discolouration during the drying process. This process may repeat itself with the second paint coat, and discolouration may show through again.

The pH value as a solution
The water-based SÜDWEST KATIOTECH lacquers use so-called cationic binders with positively charged ions. Their pH value is therefore below 7, in the slightly acidic range. As a result, the discolouration-causing ingredients are either not dissolved at all or only to a very limited extent, and are incorporated into the first coat of varnish as it dries. The second paint coat ensures an even, opaque finish.

    KATIOTECH Technology
Binding of dissolved ingredients Cationic binders consist of positively charged ions, whilst wood ingredients such as lignin, resins, tannic acids and other water-soluble contaminants often contain negatively charged components. When these are released from the substrate, they can bind with the positively charged ions of the binder and are thus trapped in the first coat of paint.
