    Making sure white stays white

Even professionals will be familiar with the experience of painting a wooden substrate white, only for the yellowy brown colour to start showing through later on. Even if you have applied two paint coats. The new SÜDWEST KATIOTECH lacquers put an end to unsightly discolouration. They reliably block ingredients from the substrate and thus ensure perfect coverage. To make sure that white stays white.

    A trio for every substrate

Discolouration mainly affects wooden surfaces, but SÜDWEST KATIOTECH lacquers are also ideal for any other substrate that requires excellent adhesion and a versatile appearance, such as plastics or non-ferrous heavy metals. A primer and two finishing lacquers are available.

    Background information

    How does discolouration occur?

The binders in conventional lacquers and paints are alkaline. They dissolve ingredients such as organic wood components, nicotine, or soot from the substrate, which then appear on the surface as unwanted discolouration during the drying process. The process is repeated with the second paint coat and discolouration appears again.

The pH value is the solution

The water-based SÜDWEST KATIOTECH lacquers use cationic binders with positively charged ions. Their pH value is therefore below 7, in the slightly acidic range. As a result, the discolouring ingredients are either not dissolved at all or only slightly and are firmly bound into the first coat of paint during drying. The second paint coat ensures perfect coverage.

    KATIOTECH Technology
No escape for dissolved ingredients Cationic binders are made up of positively charged ions, whereas wood constituents such as lignin, resins, tannins, and other water-soluble soiling are generally based on negatively charged ions. If these constituents are dissolved from the substrate, they bind with the positively charged ions of the binder and are thus held firmly in the first coat of paint.
